Blame it on McDougall

Christopher McDougall is the person to be blame for my months of disappearance from blogging.

His book slapped me off my horse like New Testament’s Saul (before became Paul) being confronted by God.

For you who doesn’t know McDougall, he is the author of National Bestseller book ” BORN TO RUN”

Born To Run - Christopher Mc Dougall

Chrisptopher McDougall also talk in TEDTALK forum.

I knew I have to do something but was blinded for months looking for an answer about running, which lead me to bought this

Mizuno Universe 4

Mizuno Universe 4 is my first pair of racing flats, bought it from Ebay. The flame pattern on the shoes blinded my eyes again, before I realised what happened, I saw the sentence “Thank you for your purchase” displayed on my monitor.

My last run before I bought this shoes was during my secondary school, so now you know how fit I was.

I started training and reading more about proper running form which lead me to these book:

Eat and Run Scott Jurek

Scott Jurek’s “EAT & RUN,” Adharanand Finn – Running with the Kenyans” and a random Barefoot running book I found in the library.

Scott Jurek is one of the main character in McDougall book. Scott talking about his life as legendary ultra marathoner and his special vegan recipes. Highly recommended.

As we all know, SALE season is coming, and look who is the new sidekick for my Mizuno Universe 4?

Mizuno Universe 4 Brooks Pureconnect

It’s BROOKS PURECONNECT. Found it on sale at SGD 69. Why another orange you might asked? That is for another story.

I was using NIKE plus app inside iPod nano to measure my running distance, but then later on found it to be not so accurate, which lead me to this:

Nike Watch GPS Tomtom

It’s NIKE GPS watch designed by TOMTOM. The watch is easy to use but lacked of waterproof feature (only limited to light rain)

I began clocking more and more mileage. My favourite distance is 10K which quite comfortable to accomplished daily.

McDougall’s book opened the door for barefoot running and the more I studied it, the more I am convinced that it is the better way to exercise.

I have been injury free since the first day I ran and intended to keep it that way. Light soreness after run is common which usually gone the next day.

This new interest also leads me to know more book author with the same passion. Haruki Murakami is one of them.

Haruki Murakami Barefoot Running

Currently I am reading his book, “WHAT I TALK ABOUT WHEN I TALK ABOUT RUNNING.” I have just finished with Jason Robillard – THE BAREFOOT RUNNING BOOK. Jason explained more on technical and training aspect of running barefoot.

Barefoot running is not a form that we can adopt instantly if we been using shoes almost everyday, and his book helps with the transition.

I will update you guys again after my big run at Standard Chartered Run next week.

Now, I got a serious training to do, thanks McDougall.
