The Blog

VanillaSeven 2nd Blogoversary

Caution: Don’t read if you don’t want to feel depressed.

It’s been a quite thorny path from 2009 to 2010.

Can’t say I am proud of the progress of this blog, if there are any.

Here are some of the highlights:

  • I quit Entrecard, which gave me major traffic in the past. Most of you that still visiting me are from there. Staying there only delayed the impending disaster. It’s like cutting lose parachute with holes. Still going down, but faster.
  • I no longer active in Adgitize. Which means I have to forked out extra money for the ads.
  • I am very busy with my current job and personal life till the extend even my photography life are suffering.
  • This is the devastating part: Most of VanillaSeven contributors are out of gas, including the co-founder. As you noticed (If you care enough) most of the post came from me for the last few months with occasionally one or two friends still post once awhile.
  • Having to published one quality post every single day is very challenging. I believe daily bloggers like ann, Lin, Ratty and Bing in agreement with me.

Well, I am only ordinary human whom has a emotion too. For bloggers to see a zero comment for almost a day while they had tried their best is very depressing. Special thanks for those of you that have keep me going for this long.

So this is what I will do from today onwards:

– Firstly, I will have a break till further notice. I can come back earlier if comments on this post have reached 50 comments/Facebook like.

– After I start my post again, I will publish a quality post in my own time, and continue after the comments reached at least 20 comments/ Facebook like. If everyday reached more than 20 comments/Facebook like then I will post new one the next day and so on.

Thank you for the friendship you guys shown all these years. Please bear with me in this soul-finding journey.

I’m sure that this was not an easy decision to make and only you know what is right for you to do. It goes without saying that I will miss your daily posts but yes I do agree that is very challenging to come up with something every single day. I sincerely wish you all the best and look forward to any future posts. If you write them I will be here.

  • Bing says:

Don’t be disheartened. I’ve noticed that Asian readers don’t have a habit to write or read comments. I, myself read many blogs, but seldom leave word too. Unless you are tracking visitor rates and are sure you don’t have an audience.. if not, then the number of comments for each post is really not a good indicator of the success of this website. Sometimes I get disappointed too, when there are no comments to my posts. But in the end, I tell myself that my site is my own personal efforts to build something great. It’ll always stay with me, with or without others’ appreciation. Try that to motivate yourself!

I feel your pain. I also struggle with my blog in finding time to write it, time to encourage other bloggers, time to find interesting material. All of this effort has rarely paid off and I find my numbers dropping.

So take your break, you deserve it. Enjoy some other hobbies, get reinvigorated and come back if you wish with a clear mind.

I’ll will miss your beautiful photography.

I am new to your blog and have just looked at some of the earlier entries. Very interesting. Doing a daily blog must take a lot of personal time with very few rewards. I do think that blogging has to fulfill you personally, or else it becomes pointless. You offer items that are valuable. My advice would be to contribute them at your own pace and see how that feels.

    I will return and thanks.

  • June Zach says:

Well, I so admire your consistency and diligence to come up with a daily post. I tell you. Your posts are amazing. :D

We all need a break once in a while. But please remember we are always here for you. :) ;)

Congratulations for reaching two years! :D

  • Ryan says:

It is hard work to carry on sometimes when you receive little feedback but comments are not everything. Instead of posting daily, why not post twice a week for example. I hope you continue blogging in the future.

  • Tanya Walton says:

Well I shall miss your posts…though i have to admit I don’t always get on daily to comment…usually about 4 times a week.

I found you through entrecard and for that I am grateful as you have shared some wonderful pictures with us.

I shall be sorry to not see you always posting but I don’t post everyday either so I can definitely forgive you for this…however the 20 comments thing I think is a little steep…I don’t think I have ever had more than 10 comments on one post and that is rare!!

  • Nicole says:

First off: Congrats to the Bloggoversary!
Second: Congrats on quitting Entrecard and the ads.
I quit mine a long while ago :(
Sorry to hear that things are busy in your Life and your Co-bloggers are not active either (and sorry for not having been around much either. I quit the RSS reader, because going through the feeds took way too much time and what I got back for the effort wasn’t worth it :( ).

Sometimes a break is the Best thing to refreshen the Spirits.
    And my suggestion.
Don’t look at the comments and count them to post your next blog entry.
Post when you feel like it. Post when you have something to share, not when you think you have to for whatever reason Blogging Gurus tell you.

I’m blogging now since almost 5 years and there’s at least one hole every year where I take a break and one where my commenters one after another take a break.
That’s just the way the circle goes.
And the old word ‘what goes around, comes around’ still counts.

Wishing you all the Best and I hope your Life will settle down a bit soon and your Mojo will come back!

Don’t be discouraged. As another reader said, you doubtless have many more readers than commenters.

I look at it this way: I blog for my own entertainment. If anyone else reads and enjoys, that is a bonus.

    Blog on!

You do what is best for you! I like your photos but also understand and share the other part of responsibilities in life. Sometimes, all can become too much!

  • betchai says:

oh, what a very beautiful photo, I do understand where you are coming from. These days, I only blog once a week, which is on weekends, since I cannot do it on a daily basis, because of my job and also leisure. Weekends, I still have to enjoy life outdoors, I do not want to stay indoors just to be able to blog. If I am left with some time to blog on weekends, then, I do it. Then, I blog more often during summer but not really on a daily basis, it may be very tiring. I see your point, though we are not here for the comments, but it is sad also sometimes to see we did our best but seeing our blog post have no comments after a day :(

I wish you well, love always the pictures and the posts here.

    Happy 2nd Blogoversary !
I’ve learned a lot and inspired by reading your daily blog. If you would like to take a break, I could understand. Write again when you feel like you want it.

I apologize that I have not contribute as much as before due to my tight schedule.

I love your picture of cactus. If you place a pot of cactus near your computer, it would reduce the radiation of your computer.

Enjoy your break and have a cheerful day :)

  • lina says:

Takeyour break and hopefully come back refreshed. Don’t worry, we’ll be here waiting for you. ;)

  • lina says:

    p.s. love the photo. :)

  • WillOaks Studio says:

Speaking for myself–breaks can be very good things! When you do create a post, it will be special to you, not just a routine. Creativity can take so many different forms but sometimes, changing focus can help improve one area or another! Your photos will always be superb, however often you share them here.

  • BK says:

All these shall pass too. Important is enjoying the process of what we are doing here. Get recharge and be back soon.
