Bali Island is known as the Island of gods and goddeses. You can find thousand of temples along the road all over the island. The biggest temple (= pura) in Bali is the mother temple of Pura Besakih.
Uluwatu Temple (Pura Uluwatu) is one of Bali’s nine key directional temples. Uluwatu is at the south part of Bali Island. Even more remarkable than the temple itself is its location, perched on a steep cliff 70 metres above the roaring Indian ocean waves. Eventhough we could not enter the temple, unless you would like to pray, you have to dress properly. If you wear short pants, you have to rent sarong.
As this temple is inhabited by a large number of monkeys, be careful with your belongings e.g. bag, camera, eye glasses, jewellries. If you do have something taken by monkey, locals will help you inducing the monkey to exchange it with fruits or peanut. You have to buy the fruits or peanut.

The cliff there are very steep. I am wondering how the temple inside look like. Beautiful
the entrance looks so inviting and the cliff is breathtakingly beautiful!
Dreamful pictures from the cliff! It looks like our island in north-sea – Helgoland…
Have a nice day

Those photos of the cliffs are fantastic. And the entrance to the temple is really pretty. Wonder what those trees or bushes are that are reddish orange. The wall on top of the cliff looks interesting. Did you take those pictures from on top of the cliff??? They are great.
wow, should go to Bali one day!
That temple is very cool and I just love the pictures of the cliff.
That looks like a fantastic place to see. The cliff is very steep though..
So beautiful! I love the entrance.- so welcoming.
Oooh, I would hate those darn monkeys! Ick. I hate monkeys like some people hate spiders or snakes. I would freak out if they grabbed something of mine. EWWWWW!
It’s a spectacular place. I also loved the sound of waves hitting the cliffs and the strong wind when I was there. By the way, I think Pura Uluwatu is located at the south part of Bali, not the north.
I remember… it was in 1999 !
Thank you for reminding me the coconut juice taste while listening to gamelan.
I love the photos of the waves breaking against the cliffs. I bet it would be a great coastline to explore
Bali is indeed beautiful
Such breathtaking sights! Hope to visit Bali one day…
wow! it’s breathtaking. I’ve heard that Bali is a good destination spot.
Glad you all enjoy the panorama of Uluwatu.
Kvelli, Marg, Icy, ann : The temple was built on one of those cliffs. Yes, I was at the temple’s outer yard taking these photos.
Vanilla : They locked the gate to the Temple. We could not enter nor take picture the inside. I wonder how the inside is.
cher, Marg, sharkbytes : the entrance is beautiful with reddish orange flower. I don’t know the name of the tree.
Lin : neither do I. I was worried if those monkeys would take my eye glasses and camera.
Evan’s mom : you are right. Thanks for correction. I bet you really enjoyed the panorama when you’re there.
G@too Giallo : Glad to hear that you’re there back in 1999. Coconut juice and Gamelan (= Rindik ini Bali) are perfect treats.
John, Nessa, fedhz : Hope you all visit Bali one day
