From Bali With Love (2) : Turtle Island, Tanjung Benoa

Tanjung Benoa Beach is not far from Nusa Dua.  You can enjoy watersports such as windsurfing, parasailing, banana boat, jet ski, snorkeling cruises, submarine and scuba diving.  We’re here not for watersport but to visit Turtle Island.  We rented a glass bottom boat,  and it took about 20 minutes to reach Turtle Island.  On the way to Turtle Island, the boat stopped for 5-10 minutes so that we could enjoy the beauty of fishes and corals through glass bottom.  The boatman gave us 3 slices of bread to feed the fishes.  Thay way,  the fishes would gather around our boat.

Welcome to Turtle Island

The turtle below was 70 years old, the biggest and oldest in this pond.  Our guide from this island, found him among so many turtles in this pond, held his hand, and handed him to me.

Oh man, this old fella  was sooooo heavy.

That place sounds like a dream land. The turtle was terrific. Was the one you held the biggest turtle there?? Guess what I am asking is if they keep growing all their lives. What a handsome guy he was.

It’s a tough life for a turtle when they just hatched and moving to the sea. I saw their documentary movie before. So many predators waiting for them on their short path to the sea. Great shots v1olet!

  10. Wow, he need some Slim Fast :) I’ve never seen one that big. Love his colors though, pretty cool.

It would be an amazing feeling to hold a turtle that big. The biggest one I’ve ever held was only a little bigger than my hand.

    thank you all for comments.

@ wenn, kvelli, ratty : The turtle shell is hard, but the neck, hands and legs which are covered with scales, are softer.

@ marg : Yes, the biggest in that pond. Turtle could live for 150 years.

@ vanilla : Man is the meanest and cruelest predator.

@ joanne : He needs some exercise rather than lazily swim around the pond :)

Tes : A friend of mine rented a jet ski to Turtle Island. Rather than holding the turtle, she sat on the biggest turtle. That’s cool.
