Send Me To Korea (3) : Nami Island

Nami Island originally is not an island by the sea.  Situated 63km from Seoul in the middle of the Han River, the island looks like a leaf floating gracefully on top of Cheong pyeong Lake.  The rain transformed this place into an island.  It is now an island with Cheong pyeong dam structure.

Nami island nickname is the land of songs and fairytales.

It has been more popular since Korean TV Drama “Winter Love Song” or “Winter Sonata”, starring Bae Yong Jun and Choi Ji Woo, was aired in 2002.

Nami Island is also known as “Love Island” as many couples visit this island for romance and reminiscense.  As tourist attraction, every season has its special beauty.  The species of trees in this island are chest-nut trees, birches, ginko trees, and maples, etc.  Other facilities are  zoo,  botanical garden and pleasure boats.

From the wharf, we took this boat to Nami Island.  The island has an area of 460.000 m2 and a circumference of 5km.  Formed with pebbles and sand, there are no mountains in the island.

Threre are trees tall enough to touch the sky, along with big grass gardens where deers, ostrichs, rabbits, squirrels, ducks and countless types of birds live together providing a place where man and nature can coexist.  Nami island today provides a warm place to rest, where people can relax.  Human being, animals, and trees share peace, love, and harmony far away from crowds and civilization.

what a beautiful place and I agree with the rest on their comments about the umbrella – it actually got my attention ! nicely decorated. Interesting on the way they grow their seeds first – probably to protect them from insects.
