Good morning lovely people! :)
After a gruesome battles and the dust finally settled, here is a brief what happened at Canon PhotoMarathon 2009!
I am arrived at 6.30am at Suntec exhibition hall, people started flowing in. Below are the views of how the place looks like.
The attendance this year is breaking Guinness Book of Record! It’s thousands!
Below is the throng after the first theme been announced.
I want to focus more on what I’ve shot rather than the event itself, so here we go.
There are total three themes given with durations about three hours in between, but the event itself dragged till almost 10pm!
The first theme is
TOGETHERNESS
Personally, I like an indirect approach of the theme rather than “in your face” approach like people holding hands, a group taking photos which very normal. I named this photo ” Father and sons” because you can see the togetherness of the piano keys strengthened by the brand of the piano itself that emphasized a family business.
Second theme was…
Motion
I named this photo ” Running Shadow.” Honestly, I picked up this multiple exposures skill on the spot, so this is the best I can get within the time and places constrain. I can’t find a plain wall within the mall premises. The grainy marble wall worsen the effect, not to mentioned there is a distortion in this picture (notice the horizontal metal lines are distorted?) I will practice harder to get a better result of this technique soon. Thats a promise.
The third and the last theme is…
ENERGY
After the disappointed result of the second theme, I’ve decided to go all out on the last theme.
I named this photo ” Bull’s Energy” The message is very simple and straightforward. A model walk away after drank Red Bull Energy Drink. The metal can are smashed to give the effect of the result of the energy drink. The composition is the tricky part and inspired by action movies.
This photo was taken at the carpark basement and the camera was placed on the floor. Due to traffic of cars getting in and out, busybody passerby, this photo consumed a lot of time, but thank God I managed to finished it on time and still got time to help others.
So, overall I feel very happy with the event (even though I found it quite draggy and I didn’t win anything.) I’ve met with numbers of new photographers, picked up new skills and photography tips from the experts. I’ll make sure that I am much prepared next time when an event like this happened again.
I believed krizzcross and Obana will upload their artworks soon!
Dear friends, please leave comment of what you think about my works, which one you like the most, any tips to improve them and maybe about the event itself. I would love to hear your opinions! Thank you! :)

I thought all three photos were very, very creative!! And I enjoyed each one as a unique solution to the challenges you were given to solve. I think the second one, the one you like the least, is the most original and creative, though! The other two are very beautiful, but the middle one seems to be the freshest solution to the challenge AND I like the way the granite with its’ seams reflects and breaks up the multiple exposure…excellent work!
Darn, that’s a lot of people.
I love the motion shot and the energy result.
Well done!
I like the motion shot a lot. I don’t think the “distorted” metal lines make any difference… more motion?
very creative..
I like the Energy. It speaks the story well.
I like all three of them. I think they are fantastic. I love your line of thinking though with the togetherness theme. Anyone can do the traditional shot yours is very creative. The motion theme is really cool. Since I’m not an expert I don’t even notice a distortion. The energy is my favorite. It just has a very urban look to it and I love it.
I think my least favourite pic is the middle motion picture…Not because of any of the reasons you stated but purely because your other two pictures really shouted out and called my attention …I like the middle one as well it just didn’t draw me as much……I think all of your photography is very good and you should be proud of what you have achieved!!
I love the creative approach you took with each theme. Loved the motion shot. I enjoyed the grainy texture very much. The piano shot I thought was serene and quite lovely.
Nice piano shot, my friend. You never cease to amaze me with your photography!!
willoaks: Thank you for the encouragement. I will surely do better for the second photo next time.
Nicole: Thousands of them, report said we break the guinness book of record for attendance.
sharkbytes: I will shot more of this technique for practice.
wenn: thanks :)
rainfield: I have to spread on the floor of car park basement while my friends keep watching for the incoming cars!
ann: Thank you for your generous comment. For the energy theme, that’s the message I want to delivered to the viewer.
Tanya: Yes, you have spoken my mind. I guess learning and practice to perfection is what I have to do now to improve this technique.
Buggys: Thanks Buggys, at first I want to make the piano shot in black and white, then I noticed that the red trim and golden lettering reminded me of tuxedo worn by Marlon Brando in Godfather which the story is about mafia family :) so I stick with the color version.
Lin: Thank you, I will keep learning and improving!
I like the last photos, if you do it in monochrome or sepia, it will look more dramatic!
I love that piano shot. You got the idea of togetherness, the ebony and ivory (Stevie Wonder and Paul McCartney) :)
I love the first shot, but it will be hard to decode the message unless somebody will explain it.
the 2nd shot is nice too… you can’t just easily create an image like this without the extra skills tucked under your sleeve.
alexa: that crossed my mind, but the color of the RedBull metal can became dull and people might not get the message.
v1olet: Exactly! I love the song! :)
Eric: Thanks for the honest comment. I will do better next time.
I like all the photos since each has its own characters and uniqueness..It must be a fun event!
I thought all of them look great! Keep up the good work:)
IcyBC: Yes, It was whole lots of fun!
Denesa: Thank you very much :)
