Little India-The Local Vegetables

Good morning lovely people!! :D

Its Wednesday! Means few more days till weekend!~Yay!

Recently I went to Little India for a photo session. Little India is an area where majority of Indians dwells and doing business here in Singapore.

You can easily come to this area via MRT train, North East Line (the purple line)

This post might become series, depend on how many photos I managed to take.

There are many of local groceries here selling ingredients and vegetables mostly for Indian food.

Here are few of them:

Carrots

Carrots can be eaten in a variety of ways. The simplest way is raw as carrots are perfectly digestible without requiring cooking. Alternatively they may be chopped and boiled, fried or steamed, and cooked in soups and stews, as well as baby and pet foods.

How you guys eat this usually, raw like bugs bunny or cooked? :)

Carrots

Next one is

Sponge gourd (Luffa, Si Gua, Patola, Oyong)

Eaten as vegetables. Personally I never tried this one, so there are little that I can tell, maybe any of you know better about its benefits?

Tomatoes

Tomatoes are now eaten freely throughout the world, and their consumption is believed to benefit the heart among other things. They contain lycopene, one of the most powerful natural antioxidants.  Personally, I like to sliced them, sprinkled sugar on top and chilled them in the fridge and eat! Overall, I love all kind and form of  tomato. How about you?

Tomatoes

Bitter gourd (Bitter melon, Pare, Pavakkai)

Other than its infamous bitter taste, Bitter gourd found its place in many delicious Asian cuisine. I personally likes it. From simply fried it with eggs or stir fried with meats, you name it. Bitter gourd was said to contain an anti ageing agent. Well, no harm consume it. What is your favorite dish cooked with bitter gourd?

You’re pictures are so bright in color. Great shot.

When I was a kid, I hated vegetables. But, I am more health conscious now, so there’s no day without vegetables. That bitter gourd could be considered like chocolate…. hm… the bitter the better. :)

I have never tried Sponge gourd or bitter gourd but as for carrots I love them raw…especially when grated..I don’t mind them in stews and casseroles but don’t like them cooked on their own…I love tomatoes of any description and eat them cooked and uncooked and put them in casseroles, stews, stir fries, stuffed melon…oh and use them to make sauces and soups too…i grow my own carrots and tomatoes!!

You chose good vegetables for this. I eat a lot of tomatoes and carrots. I’ve never had the other two. I’ll have to look for them and see how much I like them too.

    I can’t stand carrots… except if it’s carrot cheese cake! :)

I normally mix Petola with chicken in my soup… it’s yummy.

As for tomatoes and bitter gourd, I don’t buy them cos I don’t like their taste :(
