Entrecard Hoolabaloo

by flyingbeagle on April 12, 2009

I want to make this quick and short.

1. For my regular advertiser, my sincere apology for accidentally accepting paid ads. This won’t happened again.

2. For the paid advertiser, nothing personal, I won’t accept anymore ads, the only way you can advertise on EC box in VanillaSeven is by using EC credits.

3. For EC admin, I am very disapointed with the very unprofessional launch of this campaign without notice, and you owed us an apology.

This is my stand: I will still continue stick on the old way, clicking 300 pages/day, accepting ads from EC credits and only buy ads with EC credits  from the site that not accepting paid ads until EC made a huge changes that benefits our community. I have been clicking 300pages/day and posting daily without fail since January (you guys knew how hard it is), and where I am now is the fruits of my hard work and love from my faithful visitors. EC can’t just equalized my site over those 8ec/day site with just 0.02cents. It’s simply not fair.

Am I getting credits or something for accepting these paid ads?

No. We are expecting everyone to do their best to help support Entrecard within their own capabilities. We have decided to leave how you do that up to you, at least initially. We hope that many of you will choose to support Entrecard and the users by supporting this feature, and allowing us to earn money both to pay for hosting and to fund the upcoming CashOut feature.) posted by phirate/EC forum

Yes, I know running EC site needs money, serious amount of money. But their applied system, destroying the very foundation of EC itself. They slaughtering the whole farm of chicken just to get the eggs. EC credits worked well previously, I work hard, I get more credits. Don’t want to work hard? buy the credits. The economy was perfect. Then comes brilliant idea, The MarketPlace. If only EC team have patience to see their marketplace grow, in the future, they can applies small fees for each transaction (think ebay/paypal) or even giant cookie monsters like Google and Yahoo might show their interest to buy EC over.

Now as we all see, the paid ads run all over the place like headless communist chickens (flat rate at 0.02 cents) and EC credits became meaningless. I hope EC team had wake up from their “Overnight Millionaire” dream and start listening to us.

Please put your site with link below and post it on your site if you agree to stick on the old way.

I shared your thought too. The old way it is.

2 vanillaseven April 6, 2009 at 6:13 pm

Thanks BK :)

3 Laane April 6, 2009 at 6:25 pm

Completely agreeing.

The way they treated me was crap, so I’m making a blogroll with blogs I’ll visit anyway when I leave.

4 Sjeltur April 6, 2009 at 6:35 pm

I did the same – at first (by accident) I also did accept paid ads – but I cancelled them.

The only fair (and nice) part of Entrecard has been the dropping and EC point ads….

At least that way my advertisers do have 100% value of their (maybe even bought) points.

5 Lin April 6, 2009 at 7:58 pm

I’m not happy. I’m currently only approving the ads bought by blogger friends who already visit my blog and comment regularly. I’m just disappointed that they joined in to the madness.

6 Oscar April 6, 2009 at 8:23 pm

I accidentally accepted the paid ads too. Won’t happen again. I find it irritating, that I now have to reject 20 plus adds a day. They should give us an opt out feature so we can spend time making Entrecard work for us, without wasting our time.

7 Hans April 6, 2009 at 9:49 pm

To be honest; I really dont know what’s going on. I approve every day at least 10 ‘paid ads’ but where do they appear?
So, I’m dropping the old way..)

Just reject the paid ads. Even when I put my settings to be “my category” I am still getting all unrelated ads. Only approving the original EC’s.

9 Shu Fen April 7, 2009 at 5:07 am

yea the old way!

i’ll still stick to EC cus i am still getting traffic from there but…..

some grievances:

1) damn it i have to reject so many ads a day

2) damn it they appear even though i haven’t approved them

3) damn it they seem to appear more often than 1/2 the time X_X

4) damn it i have to check whether they are paid ads when i go about my dropping routine (i drop those in my inbox plus those on their featured EC) cus i hate it when i visit a site and there’s nothing to drop on…

5) damn it ppl have stopped advertising on my site ever since the whole damn thing started.

that’s a lot of damn it for you :D

10 Cashmere April 7, 2009 at 5:24 am

I agree… I prefer the old system..
I have a very long line of paid ads waiting to be approved..
They are a nuisance!

11 Digital Polaroids April 7, 2009 at 5:39 am

I agree. I accepted a bunch of paid ads, first, not noticing the difference, then, thinking they we going to pay ME… Poor advertisers, mine and me.
I don’t know what to do. I want to help EC, but I’m not buying new ads at this moment, and I got simple bored of dropping and watching the same ads everywhere.
I’m going to think about this issue, and if necessary, I’ll cancel my paid ads. It’s just unfair for EC advertisers.
Put me in the list, pls.

I agree with you.

Like many, I started approving paid ads but I’ve cancelled them and for the time being will only accept “old” ads.

The Entrecard introduction of paid ads is badly thought out. If they’re not careful they’ll ruin a useful bloggers’ network by turning it into a second-rate board for third-rate ads.

13 Dave April 7, 2009 at 1:46 pm

Good to see im not the only one turning down the paid ads. They haven’t thought the whole thing through fully. They should be thinking about the EC community not just me me me.

14 vanillaseven April 7, 2009 at 4:04 pm

Get ready for another surprise this weekend guys.

15 GrottoGirl April 8, 2009 at 1:12 am

I agree whole-heartedly with you about all of this and I’ve been rejecting paid ads, too (after accidentally accepting a few). I think I’ll probably end up leaving EC, which has affected my participation lately. I’m not even getting credit for clicks on the ads I’ve placed. Or, if I am, they’re not showing up in my stats.

16 RE Ausetkmt April 8, 2009 at 4:05 am

BadGals is for BLOGGERS Not Sploggers !
WE Support the EC not the Splog

Recycled Frockery is Going Paid AD Free Starting 04/11/09
when the present 3 we accidentally approved are done.

EntrePOD will Go with a Mix to see what happens to our hitcount.
this is our only way of measuring the change in our visits & readers opinion
on the Paid Ad Campaign. EntrePod accepted 5 Paid Ads from previous advertisers
and will only accept Paid ads from Previously Advertised Entrecard Bloggers.

No Splogs will slip into our stream if we can help it. we believe that if you paid with
a click, we should “Respect That Click” as You Respect Ours.

17 suwari April 8, 2009 at 3:51 pm

I already leave a comment regarding “Entrecard dont inform us on any changes ” .Thats really sucks. Even though, we need to support Entrecard so they can improve their site in the future use.

18 Michelle April 9, 2009 at 12:08 am

I completely agree. I don’t think EC has handled this very well. It’s just not fair to the EC droppers who pay hard earned credits to share the spot light on their widget with paid ads. I guess it’s not fair to the people who paid cash for their ads either. Gosh, what to do? Thanks for stopping by and for your wonderful comment about EC. I’m glad I’m not alone in this confusion. I just love your blog and enjoy looking at all your photo’s. Take care.

19 nicole April 9, 2009 at 1:48 am

I completely agree. I also have a post up collecting names of blogs not participating in the paid ads program. Will add the names here to my list if you are not already on it.

sign me up!!! the new entrecard is very confusing and with the new system of paid ads you cant even click through now which i would do before. The widgets are not loading properly and some widgets wont even show up. I had thought at first that paid ads were going to have there own schedule and wait like everyone else. I didnt know that they would be running while the non paid was also running. Now i will only be approving paid ads if its about family, other than that im rejecting them.

Did you see my solution today? I’m posting a friend’s button everyday right next to the EC button. If you want to drop and click on another blog, I’ve got one for you and it isn’t a paid ad! There are some really creative solutions appearing all over, so check them out!

23 VanillaSeven April 10, 2009 at 11:02 am

I saw it Lin, thanks for the update! a very good idea :)

24 Tonyknuckles April 10, 2009 at 11:21 am

Really enjoy all of the timely discussion on this topic. I also stopped accepting the paid ads and only doing the traditional EC credits for ads.

25 bingkee April 10, 2009 at 9:30 pm

I also feel the same way. Entrecard staff are kinda rude not giving any consideration or courtesy to inform us about their new program. I find the paid ads terribly annoying and I don’t care if they pay 75% of their income….75% to be shared to how many members?

I don’t accept paid ads except for those who are dropping me EC’s regularly and/or have previously had advertised in my site using hard-earned EC credits. Just like you, I want to give 100 % exposure to adverts who purchased through hard-earned EC credits.

26 Janna April 11, 2009 at 4:26 am

I completely agree that the old way was MUCH better.

28 Chic Gal April 11, 2009 at 9:05 pm

Absolutely the old way for Chic Galleria! I used to have an ads pending every morning, now….nothing. No one wants to spend their hard earned credits with so many paid ads taking up the space. No paid ads on my site. Ecard can slap my wrist.

29 Wind April 11, 2009 at 11:21 pm

As a today.com blogger, I can’t except the paid ads. In doing this, my site has dropped from #1 in the Environment Campaign list to #5 on EC. I still get paid ads on my site that I haven’t excepted and I’m thinking I’m just going to delete the widget altogether! I met a lot of great people through entrecard. I’m trying to put them all on my twitter so that I can still keep in touch. I don’t want to ad them to my blog roll as that could drop my PR…and I think that it already has. Very sad…

If you really want to stick to your no-paid ads principles, you should read my post about what I found out was showing when I wasn’t paying attention as well as the answers I received for my concerns.

You might check “Don’t allow paid ads box” but that doesn’t mean that they won’t show up anyway. That just might mean they’re being hid in your dashboard. Just an FYI for those that are serious about this.

33 Bilal April 18, 2009 at 1:32 am

oh gosh, this is getting really weird .. I don’t support the new paid ads system thingy at all ..

34 Paul Baines April 21, 2009 at 2:55 am

I totally agree with you – I’ve heard Greg Mathews is planning to build an alternative Entrecard that will be similar to the old system – yippee! anyway both of my blogs reject all paid ads at EC. They are http://paulbaines.co.uk/category/blog/ and http://buy-tees.net – oh yeah sorry I haven’t posted any art in a while – so many troubles – my Macbook died on me – I sprained my thumb – so many problems lol. Anyway take it easy.
