There are those who live their lives in fear and there are those who profit from it. The cultural misnomer that is “prophecy” is still bandied around in the 21st Century as it was in the Dark Ages. A collection of hearsay, misreported fact, poor research and over-sensationalism has led to the latest doom-laden prophetic date of the 21st of December 2012. I remember when the same was foretold of 1999, furthermore a commenter at my blog recalls how his life in the 1960s was shrouded in the propagandist fear of nuclear war and an inevitable cold war apocalypse. The earth is dying, but it is a gradual and deteriorative effect, caused by Man’s lack of due care and attention for his environment and nature in general. The end will come eventually for this race, but those who prophecize an “end day” are merely living out their own fear of mortality, in a very public way, for all of us to share.
